So what is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a powerful complementary medicine therapy based upon the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all the organs and parts of the body. The ancient Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Egyptian cultures all treated the feet as a means of promoting good health and preventing disease.

Healthy
The human body is a highly efficient machine and if its components fail to work in harmony it can suffer greatly. Through reflexology, tiny deposits or imbalances in the feet can be detected. By breaking up these crystal deposits in the feet, the toxins are carried off into the blood stream and eliminated. This relieves the congestion in the body and the body functions flow more smoothly. During this process tension can be eased and circulation and elimination can be vastly improved.

Holistic
Reflexology is a holistic treatment i.e. it treats the whole person, not just the presenting symptoms. This means that almost anyone can benefit from a treatment as the therapy brings relief to a wide range of conditions and is suitable for all ages, including children and babies.

Typical session at Socks Off
During your first session, we will have a consultation where I will take your medical history to get an overall picture of your health and lifestyle. This is important for me to assess your condition and know how to adapt future treatments to your very own needs. It will also help me to establish your treatment expectations. I will then ask you to remove your shoes and get your socks off!

A typical session of Reflexology lasts approximately 50-60 minutes. You need to drink plenty of water afterwards to flush out all of the toxins that have been broken down. Try to relax for as long as you can after the session in order to get the most from the treatment.

The treatment is either on a reclining chair or a bed with your feet raised. I use aqueous cream on your feet. All areas on both feet will be treated unless injured or infected. Areas corresponding to parts of the body which are out of balance might feel tender when treated. The sensitivity of the feet varies from person to person - I will understand the correct pressure to apply and how to interpret the tenderness felt.

The treatment should not be uncomfortable, even to the most sensitive feet. Many people fall asleep (no matter how alert they feel when they walk through the door!) so do not be surprised if this happens.
