How does Reflexology work? There are many theories as to how Reflexology works but the nervous system holds the key. It is a gentle therapy that relieves tension and clears blockages by stimulating sensory receptors in the nerve fibres of the foot. Much of your body can be accessed through your feet - as well as the reflexes corresponding to all of your bodily parts there are 7,200 nerve endings!
Reflexology relaxes the body, thereby reducing any constriction of blood vessels and improving circulation. This helps to break up common waste products which can build up in the body and settle in the feet. During a Reflexology treatment, as well as bringing the body back into balance, endorphins are released into the bloodstream, easing aches and pains, promoting a feeling of deep relaxation.
Who should NOT have Reflexology?Anyone with Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or a contagious illness should not have a Reflexology treatment. Please let me know if you have been diagnosed with any condition or if you are on medication for any illness when telephoning to make an appointment.
Will it be painful? If you do feel a slight sensitivity or tenderness in a particular area, it may be because there is an imbalance there. Usually, by the end of the session it should have cleared, unless it is a long standing condition.
How many sessions will I need?If you are having Reflexology to keep yourself in optimum health, ideally you would have a session once a month. Any long-standing conditions will need a course of at least 4 sessions taken at intervals of a week or fortnight. The treatment can take up to 7 days to work through the body.
